Origins of the Vape Industry

The technology behind vaping traces itself to the first electronic cigarette developed by Herbert Gilbert. He patented his design in 1963. Despite being developed in the 1960s, electronic cigarettes did not become a publicly-sold product until 2003.

The Growth of the Vape Industry

Vaporisers and the vape industry as a whole are forever evolving. The global e-cigarette and vape market size was valued at USD 12.41 billion in 2019 and is expected to expand at a rate of 23.8% from 2020 to 2027. The market is expected to gain traction over the forecast period. This is due to increasing product demand from millennials.

The growth of the Vape industry over the recent years has also been reflected online. The omnibus survey showed the majority of consumers had made purchases through online channels. Over a third (37%) of consumers who used or had ever used / tried e-cigarettes had made a purchase online at some point in the past, while one-quarter (25%) had made an online purchase in the last 12 months.
